Is the hybrid keymo a muzzle break and flash hider?
Blackout Defense –
Correct. It is a closed-prong flash hider with angled gas ports that direct the gas away from the shooter and reduce muzzle rise.
Uriel Beneli –
On paper is this a muzzle breaks or flash hider. I have a rifle build that I would like to purchase but given that I live in NJ, it has to be a muzzle break in order for it to be legal. I know there was an option for the dead air keymod muzzle breaks as I had that with my configuration but now I no longer see that option available. Please let me know if this product is legal in nj or is officialy as flash hider on paper and will not suffice.
Blackout Defense –
Please consult your local dealer in New Jersey as well as this guidance by the New Jersey State Police: https://nj.gov/njsp/firearms/firearms-faqs.shtml. Our hybrid KeyMo is both a flash suppressor and a brake. You are welcome to purchase a dedicated brake elsewhere and send it to us for pinning and welding to your rifle.
Lewis –
How long is this one?
Blackout Defense –
Both our flash hider and KeyMo muzzle devices are 2.82″.
Rob –
what type of caliber can this shoot? please and thx you
Blackout Defense –
Our muzzle devices are rated for .223 and 5.56 ammunition.
Ron Gale –
When is forward assist going to be available to the public?
Blackout Defense –
The forward assist went live in November and is available on our custom rifle and upper builder.
Queue –
I see that you state in the replies below that it is only specced for .223 projectiles. Is a 5/8×24 larger-bore version forthcoming?
Blackout Defense –
Yes.
Sean –
Is the bronze available?
Blackout Defense –
Not currently. The winter oxygen levels and lack of humidity has affected our ability to achieve that finish in our non-vacuum ovens. We anticipate being able to restock in a few months when we move into spring.
James –
On which length of barrels this muzzle device will achieve 16″ overall?
Will this make a 13.9″ barrel a 16″ after pinned?
Blackout Defense –
Yes. Our muzzle device is 2.82″. Even with thread overlap, our 13.9″ barrels will reach/exceed 16.0″ with our KeyMo muzzle device.
Aiden Hall –
Will this pin and weld on my 13.7” barrel and make it a legal 16”?
Blackout Defense –
No. Our Keymo hybrid muzzle device is 2.82″ and you must consider thread overlap. We recommend a muzzle device of no less than 2.9″ for a 13.7″ barrel to ensure you meet the 16.0″ length requirement.

Can I talk to someone on the phone on building my weapon
Blackout Defense –
Absolutely. Please give us a ring at 480-781-0572 and select option 1 for sales. If we are on the other line when you call, you can also email us at customerservice@blackoutdefense.com with your number and someone will call you.
William Daniels –
Would one of either of the uppers you guys make fit an IWI Zion lower?
Blackout Defense –
We cannot test the fitment of our uppers will all third-party receivers, however, our upper receiver is machined to fit any lower receiver that is machined to mil-spec dimensions. If the IWI Zion lower receiver is machined to mil-spec dimensions there should no issues with fitment.
Steve –
Would this need to be timed? I am planning to use this as a supressor mount. What would be the best position for both supresses and unsuppressed?
Blackout Defense –
Yes it needs to be timed, but the timing does not differ for suppressed vs unsuppressed.
Duer –
Could I use this for a 6mm ARC build? Would a few shims get me to 16″ if i have a 13.7″ barrel and this muzzle?
Blackout Defense –
The thread is 1/2-28 and the length is 2.82″. The muzzle device is not long enough to qualify a barrel shorter than 13.9″.
Duer –
Can I use this for 6 mm ARC or 6.5 Grendel?
Blackout Defense –
This muzzle device is 1/2-28 thread and will work with 6MM ARC as long as long as it is also threaded to 1/2-28. This muzzle device is NOT compatible with 6.5 Grendel and in any event it should not even thread onto that barrel because 6.5 Grendel should be threaded to 5/28-24.
Jacob –
Will the Keynote hybrid be made for 300 blackout?
Blackout Defense –
Yes, absolutely. Please sign up for our newsletter and follow our Instagram to stay up to date on new product releases and products in development. We intend to release our 5/8-24 muzzle devices this year.
Joshua –
How does this compare to the Dead air break?
Blackout Defense –
Dead Air makes an excellent brake. There are many independent reviews on YouTube that can help you compare.
Luis Navarro –
How much does this weigh?
Blackout Defense –
Our Keymo hybrid weighs 4.96 oz.
xsk0rch –
Will you be making these for M18-1.5 for 8.6 blk?
Blackout Defense –
We are working with Dead Air to determine if and when it would appropriate to start on a muzzle device compatible with 8.6 BLK.
Nate –
Is this for 5.56 or 30 cal?
Blackout Defense –
It is for 5.56 and is threaded to 1/2-28. It is NOT for .30 caliber. We have a .30 caliber rated muzzle device in production that will be threaded to 5/8-24. For more information on calibers and thread pitches, please review the SAAMI technical information Thread Application Guide, available here: https://saami.org/technical-information/firearm-suppressor-thread-and-socket-drawings/
Drew –
Would this qualify as a “sacrificial brake” (like the KeyMicro Brake) for the wolfman while shooting super sonic ammunition? If so, can I send you my barrel to pin and weld?
Blackout Defense –
We do not do pin and weld as a standalone service. Please contact your local gunsmith for assistance.

Will this work with the Omega 36m suppressors with Keymo?
Blackout Defense –
Our Keymo muzzle devices are compatible with Dead Air’s Keymo adapter.
stephen.tiek (verified owner) –
The Keymo Hybrid 5/8 x 24 is made for 300blk correct? Or is there a different one coming later. Thanks
Blackout Defense –
Please refer to the spec sheet, which is one of the images on the product page. Our 5/8-24 thread pitch muzzle devices have a bore diameter of .354″.
Mason E –
Will this work for Wolfman with KeyMicro adaptor?
Mason E –
Will this work for Dead Air Wolfman with KeyMicro adaptor?
Blackout Defense –
Yes.

John s –
If the bore diameter on the 1/2×28 is .334, can it be used on 30 cal?
Blackout Defense –
We do not recommend our 1/2-28 muzzle device for .30 cal ammunition. Although the bore diameter on our 1/2-28 muzzle device is larger than the diameter of a .30 cal bullet, the safety of this is dependent on the muzzle and barrel bores being absolutely concentric, as guaranteed by a competent gunsmith using an alignment rod. The safer – and our recommended and preferred – approach is instead to select our 5/8-24 muzzle device, which has a larger bore diameter, for that ammunition.
Thomas –
Will the 1/2-28 work for a 6mm arc safely without a smith? My understanding is it should be fine as long as there is at least .03″ clearance. Granted that’s if it’s perfectly aligned. I should have roughly .09 clearance.
Blackout Defense –
Best practice is to go to a gunsmith, however, an alignment rod should be used regardless.
Matthew –
Does this brake act as a sacrificial baffle? If not, do you have any plans on making an Omni directional brake that acts as a sacrificial baffle and not require timing?
Blackout Defense –
This brake is not designed to act as a sacrificial baffle. We do have plans on designing a brake as you describe.
Bob –
Will this fit the dead air key macro adaptor? Also 300 blackout
Blackout Defense –
Our 5/8-24 is compatible with .300 Blackout.
Blackout Defense –
These are separate and unrelated questions. 1. Our Keymo muzzle devices are not compatible with the Keymicro adapter. 2. Our Keymo muzzle devices in 5/8-24 thread pitch are compatible with .300 Blackout ammunition.
Russ –
Is your Keymo Hybrid muzzle brake compatible with the Dead Air Nomad suppressor?
Blackout Defense –
Yes. Dead Air advertises that the The Nomad 30 is compatible with the Xeno and KeyMo mounting system.
Michael Costanza Jr. –
Is the length of this Keymo Hybrid bring a 13.9 to a legal 16 inches with the proper shim.
Blackout Defense –
Yes. Our Keymo muzzle devices are 2.82″. With a conservative estimated of 0.6″ thread overlap, the overall length after installation on a 13.9″ barrel – even without shimming – is 16.12″.
Kyle –
Are the wrench flats on the model longer than Dead Air and SOLGW Keymo flash hiders?
I have an 11.5″ BCM barrel and an 11″ Troy Alpha Rail w/ front sight and in order to clear the handguard with my Sandman, I need a little under a 1/4″ clearance.
jeradr –
Is this legal in California on a featureless build?
Blackout Defense –
No. This is considered a flash hider in California.
Scott (verified owner) –
will this fit a sig spear 308?
Blackout Defense –
You will need to select our Sig MCX trigger when it is back in stock.
Blackout Defense –
This muzzle device is treated as a flash hider in California because we advertise this as having the ability to hide the flash to a degree.
Landon Treanor –
Firstly, I love this muzzle device. I want to get a blast shield for it and Ideally, that would be the Dead Air Pyro 2.0. Is this even possible?
JP –
Will the 5/8-24 muzzle device fit my 9” sig spear in 300blackout? I read something about the need for an adapter because of the sig spear’s barrel taper, but I am new to the platform so I haven’t figured out these details entirely yet.
Manuel –
Any clue when they’ll be in stock again? These are winning me over design-wise but if they’re never in stock I’ll have to try something else out.
